Makena Mworia is Inkomoko Kenya’s Managing Director, joining the company’s Nairobi office in September 2022.
She has more than 15 years of professional experience in international development and financial sectors in Africa and Europe. Previously she was Manager, Gender and Diversity Finance at British International Investment (formerly CDC Group), as well as the Director for the Kenya Climate Innovation Center. She’s held banking positions at both Barclays and Standard Chartered Bank, focused on commercial banking and corporate governance. Previously she was a General Manager at Echo Network Africa (formerly Kenya Women Holding). The Institution has had catalytic impact in the lives of women and youth through microfinance and gender programs.
She’s a Board member of New Faces New Voices, the Graca Machel Trust, and has been an advisor on the Cherie Blair Foundation entrepreneurship program for women.
Makena holds a Bachelor’s degree in Financial Economics, a Masters in Business Administration from Middlesex University, and a MSc in International Securities, Investment and Banking from the University of Reading in the UK.
